Kabza De Small flies high on Apple Music’s most-streamed lists [watch]

Apple Music has released a list of the most-streamed artists in South Africa ahead of Heritage Day on 24 September. Along with the most-streamed artists, the streaming platform also announced the most-streamed songs and albums. Looking at the list, it is clear that amapiano has become a dominant genre in South Africa.

MOST-STREAMED LOCAL ARTISTS ON APPLE MUSIC

South Africa has a variety of artists that music lovers can listen to but it might not be surprising that Kabza de Small tops the most-streamed artists list. The self-proclaimed King of amapiano has taken South Africa by storm with several hits including Sponono featuring Wizkid and Cassper Nyovest and Hello with DJ Maphorisa. 

There are an array of artists on this list including Gospel giants, Joyous Celebration and Afrikaans alternative group Spoegwolf.

MOST-STREAMED SA ALBUMS OF ALL-TIME

Looking at the most-streamed local albums it’s safe to say that there are several genres that stand out. Sama award-winning giant Kabza De Small dominates once again but he is not at the top of the list this time. He features on the list four times, three times with his partner-in-crime, DJ Maphorisa. 

For hip-hop fans there are only two hip-hop artists on the list but there is one R&B star who sits comfortably at the top.

MOST-STREAMED SOUTH AFRICAN SONGS OF ALL-TIME

Having been absent from the first two lists, superstar DJ and entrepreneur Black Coffee tops the most-streamed South African songs of all-time list with his song Drive. The song was a collaboration between him, French DJ David Guetta and London-based singer-songwriter, Delilah Montagu. 

Also on the list are Cape Town-based electronic duo Goldish and the late amapiano star Mpura. AKA reigns supreme as the only hip-hop artist on this list.
