GIGI’S PERSONAL LIFE

Speaking to the name of the album, she elaborated on the motivation behind the album name saying it was to find herself because she had been through a lot in her personal life. She wanted to fully document the journey in the album.

“There were times when I was in love and I fell out of love then back in love. I felt hopeless. I went through the emotions and I feel powerful now.”

The award-winning rapper further explained that she had recently gone on a spiritual journey where she learnt about the importance of water.

“The message I am sending across is we should be like mermaids and be one with water. Even with water. Even with the tides and hardships, we need to be one with the water like mermaids.”

MERMAIDS AND STUFF’ FEATURES

Gigi rounded up only Mzansi’s best for her new album. On the album she features Sho Madjozi, Nadia Nakai, Manu WorldStar, Blaklez, 25K and Aubrey Qwana.

The album’s lead single Feelin U features young rapper Blxckie and award-winning group Mi Casa. The song is a remake of Mi Casa’s hit Feeling You

The rapper explained that the song came about while she was in the studio because she felt like she didn’t have anyone legendary on the album.

“I also didn’t want it to become a typical feature hence the remix conversation began. We eventually remade the song because it became a very hip-hop inspired song. So it’s a remake of the song if it was hip-hop.”
