The South African voice-over artist and actor, Themba Robin is back with an acoustic cover of Ed Sheeran’s hit, Bad Habits, but with a truly South African twist!

What if Ed Sheeran was South African?

You may have seen Themba Robin in a few skits last year during the COVID-19 lockdown as part of his lockdown series, Lockdown is Lekker.

Now, after the comedian went viral for his ‘SkolieOlie’ advert – the perfect oil to keep criminals from stealing your belongings and his take on the Enoch Mgijima municipality’s R15 million Lesseyton sports stadium – Themba is showing off his musical talents by imaging what Ed Sheeran would have covered if he was South African and not British.

“Every time you pour a Coke you know I can’t say no,” he sings in the video that has clocked in over 80 000 views on Facebook. “Every time the Bokke play the mother’s milk it flows…” he continues before getting into the chorus: “My bad habits lead to late nights dropping my phone…conversations in the bathroom with okes I don’t know…saying this will be the last but it probably won’t… cause they’ve got a three for two…it’s true…it’s true…my bad habit is Richelieu.”

Themba is obviously referring to Richelieu brandy – a perennial favourite in South Africa.

Many South Africans were in agreement in the comment section that he nailed this reimaging of Ed Sheeran as a South African.

“‘Excellent and a good voice!” said Illine du Toit. “Just in time for the weekend going to listen to this while I have a few,” Darren Swanepoel said further.

“Can’t remove this from my brain now,” said Jennifer van den Bos. “Your videos make my life a lot less depressing,” said Kyra Deetlefs.
