Although Elliot Page kept it simple for his Met Gala look, the green flower on his blazer symbolised Irish poet and playwright Oscar Wilde.

This year’s Met Gala had everyone wondering if Kim Kardashian’s outfit was well thought out or if some A-list celebrities could’ve done much better with their outfits.

The 2021 Met Gala theme was “American independence.” One man who kept it simple and classy was actor Elliot Page, whose outfit was a subtle hint at queer love.

ELLIOT PAGE COMES OUT AS TRANSGENDER

Elliot Page (previously Ellen Page) came out as transgender in December last year and made history as the first transgender man to make the cover of Time

In his Time magazine interview, he revealed that he had undergone top surgery and said it completely changed his life. The day Page came out as transgender, he gained 400 000 Instagram followers.

“What I was anticipating was a lot of support and love and a massive amount of hatred and transphobia.”

ELLIOT PAGE’S MET GALA LOOK

While some celebrities went all out for their Met Gala looks Elliot Page kept it simple and slick with an oversized black Balenciaga suit, white button-down shirt and some chunky sneakers to match.

The 34-year-old actor accessorised his suit with a green flower that has a queer meaning. According to Oscar Wilde Tours, the green flower (which is used as their symbol) is a symbol of Irish poet and playwright Oscar Wilde.

“The green carnation became a queer symbol in 1892 when Oscar Wilde instructed a handful of his friends to wear them on their lapels to the opening night of his comedy Lady Windermere’s Fan,” writes LGBTQI+ author Sarah Prager

“From then on, wearing a green carnation on your lapel was a secret, subtle hint that you were a man who loved other men.”

LOUD AND PROUD

Elliot Page has used his Instagram page as a place for activism and to show off his hot bod.

The Juno actor showed off his six-pack earlier this year and posted the image with the caption: “Trans bb’s first swim tracks #transjoy #transisbeautiful.”
