Around 120 taps were declared faulty leaving thousands of people using the unsafe water for drinking, washing, and gargling.

Despite this, there have been no reported illnesses from those who unknowingly consumed the water over the years.

“Several reports have claimed that the hospital checks the colour, smell, and taste of water at least once a week. And based on the existing records, there has been no problem with the water since 2014.

“The university has claimed that no health hazards were found or reported during the investigation,” reports Japanese News Outlet Yomiuri Shimbun.

A heartfelt apology

The director and Vice President of the hospital, Kazuhiko Nakatani released a statement soon after the horrendous discovery was made and quickly apologised to both staff and patients who were left anxious by the worrisome news:

“I am very sorry that the university hospital that provides advanced medical care has caused anxiety.”

He also went on to say that all water connections will be fixed and checked regularly going forward.
