Even though Game of Thrones will end forever on 19 May, HBO will also air a two-hour documentary about the filming of the eighth and final season.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Game of Thrones: The Last Watch will air on 26 May. It was reportedly directed by British filmmaker Jeanie Finlay and “delves deep into the mud and blood to reveal the tears and triumphs involved in the challenge of bringing the fantasy world of Westeros to life in the very real studios, fields and car-parks of Northern Ireland.”

“Much more than a ‘making of’ documentary, this is a funny, heartbreaking story, told with wit and intimacy, about the bittersweet pleasures of what it means to create a world – and then have to say goodbye to it.”

Winter is Coming reports that there will also be a reunion special filmed on set and hosted by late-night host Conan O’Brien that’s set to debut on a forthcoming Game of Thrones Blu-ray boxset.

So there will be multiple ways to say goodbye to Game of Thrones after it’s over.

When will Game of Thrones season 8 premiere?

The final season of the HBO series is slated to premiere on Sunday, 14 April. The show will most likely be simulcast on DStv’s channel 101 in the early hours of Monday morning.

HBO announces its first Game of Thrones prequel:

HBO has ordered a pilot episode for the prequel, which will be set thousands of years before the battles over the Iron Throne. The as yet untitled prequel was created by British screenwriter Jane Goldman with author George R.R. Martin.

However, the show will not be broadcast until after Game of Thrones’ final season. HBO said in a statement that if picked up, the prequel will chronicle “the world’s descent from the Golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour.”

“From the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East, to the Starks of legend… it’s not the story we think we know.”
