Max Hurrell recently produced ‘When people Zol’ based off Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma’s speech. She now wants to talk with him.

Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma says she would like to have a talk with Cape Town-based DJ Max Hurrell after he released a song titled ‘When people Zol’. Why you ask? Well, the DJ based his song off her speech and her voice.

Whether Dlamini-Zuma is looking for royalties or has an apple to peel with Hurrell, we don’t know at this stage. She’s made one thing clear though. She wants to talk.

“Who is this Max Hurrell fellow? We just need to talk,” she said on Twitter on Wednesday 13 May.

WHEN PEOPLE ZOL ?? What have I done ?

Hurrell’s local hit When People Zol, basically pokes fun at Dlamini-Zuma’s now-infamous announcements.

During a National coronavirus Command Council (NCCC) meeting, which most South Africans are now accustomed to, she said that the use of zol could be dangerous regarding the spread of COVID-19.

Dlamini-Zuma said that “when people zol, they put saliva on a paper and then they share that zol,” indicating that it could be dangerous regarding the transmission and spread of the virus.

Hurrell basically took her exact words and put a catchy beat to it. For a change, the NCCC meeting and the lockdown wasn’t all gloom and doom. South Africans actually had something to smile about.

According to reports on Monday, Hurrell’s hit was steadily climbing the Apple Music streaming charts. On 8 May 2020, it was in the top 50 of the streaming chart on Apple Music. The chart is updated throughout the day based on users’ listening preferences.

Hurrel’s ultimate hope is that the song “makes people laugh during the lockdown”.

DLAMINI-ZUMA: ‘WE JUST NEED TO TALK’

Dlamini-Zuma has surely, by now, been made aware of the viral video which features her. She took to Twitter saying she would like to talk to Hurrell. Whether he’s in for a pat on the back or a stern talking to, we just don’t know.

Hurrel, like a champ, has since responded to her tweet. He said the following:

“Hi there Minister, please follow me so I can DM you my details!”

He also took to his Instagram page saying: “It just got real”

A twitter user wrote to Hurrell saying that Dlamini-Zuma would most likely want to claim royalties for using her voice in his song. What we all want to know is what Dlamini-Zuma will say in response to the hit. We hope Hurrell has an update in store.
