With the national state of disaster finally lifted and restrictions almost completely a thing of the past, South Africans are sure to make good of the many public holidays ahead. Maybe a holiday in Cape Town?

Just think. Lazy days on the beach, drinks at gourmet restaurants and bars, or staycations in and around your city.

But before you start planning that much-needed getaway, you might want to take a look at the latest data released on the most expensive cities in the country.

MOST EXPENSIVE CITY? JOZI OR CAPE TOWN?

When planning a holiday or getaway to the mother city, one would be forgiven for thinking you’ll be visiting the most expensive city in the country.

According to capetownetc, one of the most common associations people have with Cape Town is that it is costly. In fact, it’s become somewhat of a personality trait.

But, as recent data has shown, this might not be the case. Cape Town might not be as expensive as all thought.

SA CITIES UNDER TOP TEN

A recent report released by Statista, titled “Most Expensive Cities to Live in Africa as of 2022”, compares the cost of living in different African cities.

Dakar, in Senegal, was listed as the most expensive city to live in Africa, and the Senegalese capital obtained an index score of 50.87, followed by Addis Ababa, in Ethiopia, with 50.49. Morocco and South Africa both have multiple cities listed in the report.

Johannesburg, Cape Town, Pretoria and Durban are all featured on the list.
