In her first-ever curated exhibit, Schiffer will take fans and fashion aficionados on a personal journey through the fashion industry in the 1990s, showcasing scenes of fashion shows and afterparties, music and memorabilia, and previously unseen and intimate material that will reflect the dynamism of that rollicking period and change of an era.

The exhibition will bring together some of the industry’s most iconic and legendary fashion photographers like Ellen Von Unwerth, Herb Ritts, Karl Lagerfeld, Juergen Teller, Arthur Elgort, and Corinne Day, with whom Schiffer collaborated during her 30-year career.

Over 120 exhibits will delve into the extravagant industry during the 90s and showcase the fashion world at the time with billboards and polaroids, magazine pages and famous covers, images in every form, and other fashion media.

Schiffer’s inspiration for the exhibition

When asked about her inspiration for the exhibition, Schiffer said that she fell in love with fashion in the 80s, but she really learned what fashion was about in the 90s.

“It was an intense and amazing time that had not been seen before when shoots lasted for days and fashion was front-page news for weeks,” Schiffer said. “Myself and the other supermodels lived and breathed it and for the first time we realised together, we had the power to make a change.”

Schiffer was discovered by a modelling agent at the local nightclub Checkers in Düsseldorf in 1987 and rose to fame in the 1990s as one of the world’s most successful models.

Often compared to Brigitte Bardot, Schiffer has appeared on more than 1,000 magazine covers, launched her own collection, appeared in several movies, released four exercise videos, and is currently a UK Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF.

The exhibition will be released in March 2021.
