Just a week after having her South African Music Awards (Samas) stolen from her Johannesburg west home, award-winning singer Zahara is facing yet another heartbreaking situation.

According to City Press, Zahara has been struggling to pay her R1.9 million loan for her Roodeport home and Nedbank could auction off her home to the highest bidder on Saturday 7 May.

ZAHARA’S R1.9 MILLION LOAN

As per City Press, the Loliwe hitmaker’s R1.9 million loan was finalised on 25 July 2012, but she has been butting heads with Nedbank after failing to repay the loan.

The bank first flagged that Zahara was not keeping up with her loans in April 2018, pushing the bank to issue of notice of motion which was filed at the Johannesburg High Court.

In October 2019, the high court successfully granted an execution order against Zahara’s Roodeport house after she stopped paying the amount she owed for almost six months.

Her monthly payments reportedly amounted to R17 665, 40. The publication further reports that Zahara’s home will be put up for auction on Saturday 7 May.

ZAHARA RESPONDS

When asked about her failure to repay the loan, the talented singer said she struggled to pay due to the COVID-19 lockdown,  but she has been making up for the missed payments.

“I paid R100 000 in December and followed that up with another R80 000 in February, paying the account in advance.”

“I haven’t gotten a notice yet, but it would be unfair if it’s because of the past two months.”

TWEEPS STAND WITH THE SINGER

Taking to Twitter, tweeps have shown their support for Zahara with some asking how they can assist her.

“What can we do for Zahara as CBD Twitter? She might be homeless soon. That’s our queen right there,” wrote one tweep.

“I really don’t like what’s happening to Zahara, she’s so talented, she doesn’t deserve all of [this],” wrote another tweep.

“If we managed to do it for Zola to buy alcohol with donation money. We could save Zahara’s house.”
