Shona Ferguson passed away at the age of 47, succumbing to complications related to COVID-19 at a Johannesburg hospital

Family of the late TV actor and producer Shona Ferguson are set to bid him farewell in a private funeral service on Wednesday morning, 4 August 2021.

“Details of a memorial service will be communicated at a later stage once all the necessary arrangements have been finalised,” reads the statement.

The 47-year-old TV mogul passed away on Friday, at the age of 47. The Ferguson family confirmed that he succumbed to complications related to COVID-19, in hospital.

He and his wife, fellow actor Connie Ferguson, headed their own TV production company, Ferguson Films, which is behind a number of successful shows to its name, including the mega popular soaps The Queen, Rockville, Igazi and The Throne.

“Oh how God has loved me to give me YOU! We were already planning our 20th wedding anniversary in November, assuming that we had time! (sic) You and I were joined at the hip, now I feel completely off balance, incomplete, without my other half! My SOULMATE,” Connie said about her husband, following his passing.

There has been a wave of reaction to Shona Ferguson’s passing, including industry colleagues, political parties and even fans.

“Shona was a creative gem and a visionary. He was a media mogul, an innovator and a pioneer who possessed an irrefutable ambition. Our thoughts and prayers are with Connie and the family during this time. Furthermore, we extend our sympathies to the industry at large. May his soul rest in peace,” said Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa.
