Canadian singer-songwriter and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk’s partner, Grimes, and rapper Lil Uzi Vert exchanged a few words about planets on social media that intrigued their followers. According to Grimes, the American rapper is the proud owner of a new planet.

Responding to a tweet from a latest in space Twitter account, about a planet 1.4x larger than Jupiter named “WASP-127b”,  genre-bending musician Grimes claimed that Lil Uzi Vert owns the planet.

The planet was discovered in 2016.

Lil Uzi Vert confirmed the news, responded to the tweet penning: “I tried 2 surprise everyone. Still working on it #neuralink”.

Grimes further emphasised the documentation is almost complete and Lil Uzi Vert would be the first human to own a planet.

Professor of Space Law at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Frans von der Dunk told Business Insider if someone told the rapper he owns a planet in the normal sense of the word, it is simply not true.

“It’s fraud.”

Von der Dunk and the director of McGill’s Institute of Air and Space Law, Ram Jakhu referenced the 1967 Outer Space Treaty sponsored by the United Nations.

The treaty forbids all nations and their citizens from claiming territory in space.

In 2012, a Quebec man Sylvio Langevin, filed a lawsuit claiming to own all the planets in the solar system. The case was dismissed.

According to Jakhu, the closest anyone can come to owning a planet is collecting minerals from outer space to study them.

This isn’t the only controversy the rapper has been embroiled in.

In February, the Lullaby rapper had a $24 million (about R356 million) pink diamond inserted into his forehead. He mentioned that he had put money aside for four years to save for the 11-carat diamond.

Although the rapper was advised against the decision, he still went ahead with it. Rumours have been flying that the rapper has since taken the diamond.
