Vuma FM radio producer Jacinta Ngobese has reportedly accused KwaZulu-Natal premier Sihle Zikalala of stealing her idea. These accusations come while Zikalala is still licking his wounds after losing the contest to remain the ANC chairperson in KZN this past weekend.

JACINTA NGOBESE ACCUSES ZIKALALA OF STEALING

According to the Daily Sun, Ngobese submitted a proposal to the premier’s office for funding for an event she wanted to organise and host called the We Are One Festival”. With the event, Ngobese aimed to bring together the community of Inanda, Ntuzuma and Kwa Ma”shu in KZN, otherwise known as the INK community. Surrounding areas such as Newlands and Phoenix would also be included.

The Vuma FM producer’s ida would also unite KZN after the July Unrest in 2021 which highlighted years of racial tension in the province.

“Racial tensions among these communities are well documented so I introduced the concept as a way of uniting them,” Ngobese was quoted by the publication as saying.

She further explained that she had already hosted the inaugural festival in 2016, but could not continue with it annualy due to funding.

“I approached the government of KZN, requesting funding to revive the festival. I never received the funding. Instead, saw the premier, Sihle Zikalala, using my concept,” she explained, adding that she is contemplating suing Zikalala.

PREMIER’S OFFICE RESPONDS

According to Zikalala’s spokesperson, Lennox Mabaso, Ngobese’s allegations are not true.

“The premier has no knowledge of this and he never used Jacinta’s concept. But if Jacinta has proof of this, she can report me to my principals and I’ll gladly resign,” he said.
