Meghan Markle’s decision to interview South African comedian Trevor Noah – whose jokes about the British royal family have courted controversy – has been met with criticism.

The wife of Prince Harry featured The Daily Show host as a guest on her final episode of the Spotify podcast Archetypes. But no sooner had the episode aired, than a video featuring the talk show host “insulting” the late Queen Elizabeth resurfaced.

MEGHAN CRITICISED FOR INTERVIEWING SA COMEDIAN

On Tuesday 29 November, Trevor Noah appeared as one of the guests on the final instalment of Archetypes. In the episode, the biracial former actress chatted to the South African comedian – who is also biracial – about his upbringing.

Trevor touched on important women in his life as well as South African women who pursued “justice and equality”. He also spoke about toxic masculinity and how he believes women in Mzansi are conditioned to it.

But Trevor Noah’s praise for women in his home country did little to quell critics, who reminded him of his past comments about the royal family.

In fact, following the airing of the episode, a clip from The Daily Show, in which Trevor noted how some critics of the royal family chose not to mourn the death of Queen Elizabeth – and instead celebrate it – resurfaced.

In the clip, TrevoR impersonates a royal critic who quips “bye b*tch” after the queen’s death.

And the consensus from many critics of Meghan Markle was that her decision to include Trevor Noah in her podcast was a direct jab at the royal family, whom she has a complicated relationship with.

Here’s what tweeps had to say:

@KevinFr03299496: “Trevor Noah said that Charles (Harry’s Father) is not the right person to be King, one week after he became the monarch. Meghan then invites him on her podcast”

@CountessCommon1: “Meghan hosts Trevor Noah, who mocked The King in a segment on his show just a few days after The Queen died. I have no words”

@Hazel922: “No prizes for guessing why the former actress of no distinction invited him on”

@ElizMalc: “I thought Meghan hated the B word. How could she host Trevor Noah after he publicly derided Queen Elizabeth as a b*tch when she died?”

TREVOR NOAH DRAGGED OVER COMMENTS ABOUT PRINCE CHARLES

In September, Trevor Noah has incurred the wrath of angry royal fans following his criticism of King Charles.

The South African comedian had critics reeling after he referred to the monarch as “spoilt”. Charles was crowned the new monarch following the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth just days earlier.

In an episode of The Daily Show which aired on Thursday 15 September, Trevor Noah poked fun at viral clips of King Charles becoming annoyed at his royal staff.

One clip saw Charles bemoaning a leaking pen while signing an official document. In another, he grimaced at staff as he beckoned for them to clear his desk.

Doing what he does best, Trevor Noah found humour in the viral clips, playfully teasing the royal for his “p*ssy pens” tantrums.

He also aired a clip of former royal butler Paul Burrell who claimed that then Prince Charles was very particular about how he liked things done.

Trevor Noah added: “If you paid attention to King Charles to his prince days, you would know that this is pretty much how he has always been”.

He added: “When I was a kid, I thought kings had to pull swords out of stones. This dude can barely pull his own d**k out of his own pants.

“You know what this tells you about Charles, is that royals have been really spoilt”.
