TREVOR NOAH RESPONDS TO KANYE BEEF CLAIMS

Speaking in a “Between The Scenes” segment on The Daily Show, Trevor Noah responded to an audience member, who asked him if he has “beef” with Kanye West.

The South African comedian calmly responded: “A beef has to go both ways…I was never beefing with Kanye West, I was concerned about Kanye West”.

Elaborating, Trevor added: “If someone says that they have a mental health issue, and they say when they don’t take their medication, they’re unable to control themselves…And then everyone ignores when that person is having an episode and hasn’t taken their medication, and then they platform the person. I think it’s a little sh***y” to be honest”.

Trevor Noah then compared his attitude towards Kanye West to the relationship he had with his grandfather, who had bipolar disorder.

He continued: “One thing we knew was when he was having one of his episodes….but our job was to support him”.

Trevor denied that any of his comments about Kanye were said maliciously. “Concerned, definitely”, he added.

‘I GREW UP LOVING KANYE’

And despite Kanye West’s apparent disdain for Trevor Noah, the latter has nothing but love for his idol.

He said: “I grew up loving Kanye. There are a few hip hop artists who have shaped how I see music, the punchlines that he had in every single song, it was like listening to comedy, the sketches that he had. He loved stand-up comedy.”

He added: “I still love him, despite the s**t that he talks. One thing about it, in South Africa, I grew up in a space where people would say: ‘We’re going to tell you to your face’. We’re not going to sit by and act like we didn’t see it.

Whilst he doesn’t have beef with Ye, Trevor Noah did real what he did have an issue with.

He added: “What I have beef with is us as a society not coming together around the person…This is not the  moment to be putting a microphone in your face so that you go off saying everything

“If he wants to process it as beef, I understand, but I have never had beef with him…I still love the man I think he is. I understand he’s gone through a lot, and I don’t take that for granted

Of others who are choosing to mock Kanye, Trevor added: “I promised myself that I will never be the person who sits by and gleefully says things about people that I care about…and then also join in with the ‘group of mourners’ afterwards

Too many people like to mourn you when you’re dead, but don’t say anything when you’re alive”.
