Now that Trevor Noah is ending his seven-year stint at The Daily Show, fans are keen to know what’s next for the South African comedy.

The star of the talk show broke the news to viewers in a bittersweet special message on Thursday 29 September.

It’s unclear when his last day will be or who will succeed him as host.

TREVOR NOAH HINTS AT FUTURE PLANS

In his message, which caught viewers off guard, Trevor Noah revealed that whilst he had recently celebrated seven years at the show, he was eager to move on.

He said: “My time is up but in the most beautiful way. I’ve loved hosting this show, it’s been one of my greatest challenges and joys. 

“I’ve loved trying to figure out how to make people laugh when the stories are particularly sh***y on the worst days. We’ve laughed together, we’ve cried together, but after seven years I feel like it’s time”.

Trevor Noah also hinted at what his future plans entail.

He continued: “I spent two years in my apartment, not on the road. When I got back out there again, I realise that there’s another part of my life I want to carry on exploring

“I miss learning other languages, going to other countries, and putting on shows, I miss being everywhere doing everything

Reflecting on his time at The Daily Show, Trevor Noah continued: “I’m really grateful to every one of you….I’m not good at goodbyes…and it’s not instant I’m not disappearing “

Before jokingly adding: “If I owe you money, I’ll still pay you”.

Becoming emotional, he continued: “I never dreamed I would be here. I felt like Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, like I came in for a tour, and the next thing I know I was handed the keys….It’s been truly amazing, one of the best experiences of my life”.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS OVER THE YEARS

As a comedian and beloved talk show host, Trevor Noah has no doubt ticked many items off his bucket list.

A list of his notable accomplishments include:

  • Being an award-winning author for his 2016 bestselling book Born A Crime
  • Hosting the Grammys twice in 2021 and 2022
  • Hosting a White House Correspondence Dinner in 2022
  • Receiving a record amount of Emmy nominations for his role as The Daily Show host
  • Landing on Time Magazine’s 100 most influential people of 2018
  • Named fourth-richest stand-up comedian in the world by Forbes in 2019
  • Named one of “The 35 Most Powerful People in New York Media” by The Hollywood Reporter in 2018
  • Winning a host of awards including an MTV Movie & Tv Award, People’s Choice Award, Critic’s Choice TV Awards, NAACP Awards, and GLAAD Media Awards.
  • He also nominated for a Grammy award for his comedy album Son of Patricia in 2020.

SA HOME TOUR

Whilst Trevor Noah hasn’t provided any details on his last day on set, he has announced his comedy tour return to South Africa next year. 

The Soweto-born star will be marking his return home with 12 shows across the country from 31 August  – 15 September 2023.
