Trevor Noah’s stint at as the Grammys host for the second consecutive year was nothing short of entertaining. For most viewers, that is…

The South African comedian had the audience at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas in hysterics with his clever quips at the awards ceremony. From Lady Gaga to Justin Bieber, to Will Smith, Trevor took aim at all the big stars in his opening monologue.

But fans of supergroup BTS were not impressed with his crack at their idols – with some claiming his comments were even “racist”.

SINGING IN KOREAN WITH BTS

One of the highlights for viewers – and Trevor Noah himself – was his segment with Korean supergroup BTS.

The Daily Show host joked about the award-winning group – who also performed at the ceremony – showing him their best dance moves backstage.

Trevor then sat down with the group, chatting with leader Kim Namjoon aka RM who revealed that he had learned the English language by watching the popular series Friends.

In return, Trevor claimed that he had attempted to teach himself Korean by also watching a popular show. The host then belted out the Red Light, Green Light song lyrics from the hit Netflix series Squid Game. But whilst members of the group found the joke entertaining, die-hard fans – aka their “Army” – were not entirely thrilled.

TWEEPS SLAM ‘RACIST’ TREVOR NOAH

Taking to Twitter, many tweeps called out Trevor Noah for his “racist” reference.

“That BTS interaction with Trevor Noah was so uncomfortable…why did that joke feel lowkey racist”

“Why is nobody talking about how Trevor Noah made some racist remarks to BTS? The Grammys only invited them because they’re Korean. Singing the Squid Game song in front of them? That’s f***ed up”

“So @TrevorNoah references Will Smith to get laughs at the @Grammys and later thinks it’s ok to make a racist quip to @BTS for laughs. Just not funny”

“Trevor Noah making a Squid Game joke to BTS was not necessary”

“Out of all the fantastic jokes available, you had to be racist. It’s humiliating to be a racist at the Grammys as someone who speaks out against racism”
