The Daily Show host Trevor Noah recently shared with the South China Morning Post about how he dealt with depression and anxiety due to COVID-19.

Noah said in the interview with the publication that COVID-19 made him realise what a workaholic he is and says he was forced to slow down for the first time.

The South African-born comedian said in the interview that he used daily goals and routines to combat his anxiety and depression.

TREVOR GETS CANDID

“It was terrible. Are you kidding me?” If anyone struggles with depression, if anyone’s working through anxiety, you can do a good job of managing that.

You can manage how you eat, you can manage how you exercise, how you get fresh air, how you associate with people.

“All of these things contribute to your mental health. Having it all stripped away at once took a toll on society that I don’t even think we’ve begun to understand.”

Routine and goals

This wasn’t the first that the comedian opened up about his depression.

In a GQ interview last year, Noah revealed that he sometimes didn’t want to wake up. He also mentioned in the interview with the publication that The Daily Show was a blessing to him because it’s given him a routine.

He told GQ that two of the best things for depression are routine and goal-orientated tasks.

“Every day I have to make a show. Every day I have to finish the show. Every day I have to let go of the show.”

Yes, Trevor Noah struggles with his self-esteem

The comedian also told People Magazine a few years ago that he’d worked hard on his self-esteem.

Noah also tackled the struggles he had with women and dating and how he had to work on his self-esteem issues for several years.

He said in the 2017 interview with People that he’s still like the kid in high school when he meets a woman. He’s still like “Hi, my name is Trevor.”
