For a long time, legendary actor Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith were seen as “couple goals” or the perfect dynamic duo. Many of their fans put them on a pedestal as they rose to success in their respective ventures.

Recently, fans have been left appalled as the couple let their guard down giving the world a closer look at their considerably imperfect lives.

Will and Jada: Incredibly liberal or unconventionally disastrous?

As the world progressed, the term “to each their own” has become more and more applicable as people have been given…or rather fought for, the freedom to live as they please, free from the judgment that society once imposed on everyone who chose to live unique lives.

Celebrities unlike us regular folk have had to be even more careful than the rest of us when it came to how they live their lives, and this must be why we were all led to believe that Will and Jada Pinkett Smith were living the American dream.

The couple met on the set of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air back in 1994 when Jada auditioned to play the role of Will’s girlfriend on the sitcom. While she was turned down for the role because of her height, Will had already spotted her, and soon after that, his marriage to his then-wife fashion designer and actress Sheree Zampino ended.

Will and Jada were married in a lavish ceremony only a few years after they first met – something that we now know Jada was very opposed to.

“I was so upset that I had to have a wedding. I was so pissed. I went crying down the freakin’ aisle getting married,” she said on Red Table Talk.

Will further revealed that he went on to buy a huge house, something his new bride was also opposed to.

“Nothing good comes from spending your hard-earned money on a ‘family home’ that your wife doesn’t want. You are putting a down payment on discord and for years you will be paying off a mortgage of misery. Or, worse,” Smith writes in a GQ article.

The start of what we now can clearly see, a disastrous union that has left a once youthful and full of life Will looking withdrawn and in an eternal state of tiredness – something he blames on being in his “f* it fifties”.

Down a slippery slope

On Jada’s 40th birthday they had a falling out so oud over Will’s poor party planning skills that their daughter Willow, who was ten years old at the time came out of her room crying and begging them to stop.

“Our marriage wasn’t working,” Smith writes in his book. “We could no longer pretend. We were both miserable and clearly something had to change.”

Years later in 2016, the pair took a break and Jada found comfort in singer August Alsina’s arms. At the time the pair denied being involved and maintained that Jada was only “mentoring” the now 29-year-old.

In 2020 during a mindblowing episode of Red Table Talk, we heard how she was involved in a sexual relationship with the musician – something she prefers to call an “entanglement.”

Many people were left under the impression that she had betrayed Will but this was cleared up in the GQ article where Will revealed that he too was involved in some “entanglements” of his own.

How their choices have impacted the lives of their children

Will and Jada have always expressed how proud they are of their parental skills and the lessons that they have taught their children Jaden, 23, and Willow, 20.

The two have grown up quite as unconventionally as their parents and pride themselves in living very “woke” lives. Jaden identifies as gender fluid and also models Louis Vuitton womenswear while Willow at only 20, says she is polyamorous and earlier this year, wrote how her life was going in a “dark direction”.

None of the above is to be frowned upon but one cannot help if the children’s lifestyle choices are harshly influenced by their parents and their “relational perfection.”

While a source who spoke to New York Post maintains that the children have always been Will and Jada’s main focus, it is arguable that their influence has resulted in offspring who are hellbent on living alternative lifestyles in the name of “being true to themselves” the same way their parents have been doing – or trying to do.

Truthfully, they all appear to be a quite unique bunch and have made it very clear in numerous episodes of Red Table Talk where we saw Will teary-eyed as his wife spoke of her entanglement, Jada oblivious to the fact that her lifestyle was affecting her husband and Willow speaking about considering getting her butt surgically enhanced at such a tender age.
