Over the last few months, South Africans have taken a big interest in how much local artists get paid to perform at gigs. The latest person whose fees are being discussed is local musician and actor, Naak MusiQ. While some people believe he isn’t making enough money, others questioned who would actually want him at their events.

Naak MusiQ’s R25k booking fee raises eyebrows for different reasons

It’s no secret that South African musicians and artists are not making nearly as much as celebrity performers from other countries. The topic has always been heavily discussed by locals who either believe that they should be paid more, or they are asking for too much.

Naak MusiQ is one of the artists whose booking fee has received mixed reactions from locals who are unsure whether it’s too much or not enough.

The conversation started after entertainment blogger Musa Khawula tweeted that Naak makes around R25k per performance:

“Booking Naak MusiQ to perform at your event costs R25 000 according to his manager. The booking fee does not include accommodation and flights or transportation of 4 people, which are the artist, DJ, pianist and road manager,” wrote Khawula.

Here’s what locals think

While some feel it’s too much, other’s think it’s very affordable:

“To book Naak Musiq and Donald supposed to be R500 plus free drinks. Who the hell can have a Fomo to watch those people performing. Bad investment.”

“Too much negativity you have over SA artist bro wam it sad that you tarnish people’s honestly living and bread in the name of clout. It’s all fun and games until one messes with your bread…”
