The post was meant to celebrate Idols Sa 2022 contestant Nozi making it to the competitions’s Top 9. Nozi won over the audience after belting out Mazwai’s Nizalwa Ngobani on Sunday 18 September 2022. However, fans quickly replied to the tweet, urging the account to correct the spelling mistakes.

Tweet and delete

Publicist to the stars, Marang Setshwaelo joined in on the outcry, urging Idols SA to delete the tweet, which the account eventually did, posting a corrected version of the tweet. It was unclear if the reality show apologised to the Mazwai before doing this.

The interaction was swiftly attended to as the post was deleted within an hour of Mazwai tweeting her disapproval. She referred to the song as one of the most important post-apartheid songs ever written.
