For advocate Gerrie Nel, his no-nonsense quest to find the truth is precisely the reason why many are recommending him to represent the family of Thabo Bester’s victim Katlego Bereng.
The legal eagle – who is now with AfriForum – achieved internet fame as a state prosecutor in the high-profile Oscar Pistorius trial. He also offered advice to the family of Senzo Meyiwa.
Now many South Africans are hoping he will bring justice for the man whose burnt body was found in Bester’s Maguang prison cell last year.

KATLEGO BERENG BODY IDENTIFIED
According to police, Katlego Bereng’s body went missing from a Bloemfontein morgue a year ago. It was later discovered in cell 35 after a failed prison escape by Bester.
In May 2022, Bester faked his death by planting Bereng’s body in his cell, allegedly with the help of co-conspirator Nandipha Magudumana.

The celebrity aesthetics doctor has been formally charged with murder due to “a number of bodies found.” She’s also facing charges of aiding and abetting Bester’s escape and violation of corpses and fraud, reports News24.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed that Katlego’s body had been positively identified and the family notified.
Mathe told the publication: “As difficult as this news is, the SAPS is pleased to bring closure to the family.”

WILL GERRIE NEL TAKE ON THABO BESTER?
Over the weekend, Katlego’s dad Batho Mpholo revealed that he was keen to sue the state, as well as Thabo Bester and Nandipha Magudumana, over his son’s death.
He also tweeted his desire to have high-profile attorney Dali Mpofu represent him.

But tweeps responded to his tweet, advising him to hire Gerrie Nel instead.
