South African actress Candice Modiselle says that hosts shouldn’t use ‘ladies and gentlemen’. The former Generations urged hosts at events and broadcasters to be more considerate of the queer community. Her views were met with applause by many of her followers.

Candice Modiselle has become a voice for the queer community by sharing her views on something that is seemingly weighing heavily on her heart. Modiselle did a lengthy reel on Instagram where she discussed language and how it matters to gender-fluid or non-binary human beings.

Candice says that event hosts and broadcasters should be more mindful about the way they address crowds at events. This is because not everyone identifies as he or she.

In fact, she says that people should no longer use the term ‘ladies and gentleman’ when they do opening greetings.

“I initially shared this on my story but felt it equally important to share this reel. Further more, as an artist, storyteller, speaker, programmes director, and essentially a voice, language matters. Semantics matters.

“Representation matters and we need to be mindful of creating spaces of inclusivity in how we address our diverse audiences. Time to adapt and unlearn the erasure of queer identities through language. It matters. They all matter. #QueerLivesMatter”
