Steve Hofmeyr and politics are synonymous, which is why it comes as a surprise to many that the controversial singer did not cast his vote at the local municipal elections on Monday, 1 November.

The Afrikaans singer – a stern member of the Freedom Front Plus political party – is often vocal about issues pertaining to the government, race relations and farm murders.

But the star sat this one out as he revealed on social media that he was thousands of kilometres away from his voting ward.

‘I AM STUCK HERE’

In a Facebook post, Steve Hofmeyr revealed that he was currently touring the Cape after performing a series of concerts around the province.

The father-of-six was enjoying sightseeing with his wife Janine and his youngest child, daughter Romy-Lee.

During his adventures on tour, Steve revealed that he had met former Springbok rugby player Percy Montgomery, visited old friends and tasted “Boer Bier” for breakfast.

“The Cape is good to me”, he told his legion of followers.

But Steve’s travels meant he was unable to cast his vote in his local ward. “I am stuck here. Will I be able to vote 1500 km away from me?”, he asked his fans.

According to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), South Africans may only vote at the voting station where they are registered.

STEVE HOFMEYR VOWS TO CONTINUE BOYCOTT

Meanwhile Steve Hofmeyr vowed to continue his boycott against a number of big brands.

The crooner cut ties with Multichoice – and infamously burnt his DStv satellite dish as a result – after the broadcaster vowed to never air his content again after an old, “racist” tweet of his reemerged in 2019.

Steve also ended his consumption of Coca Cola and Castle Lite – in favour of locally produced beverages Boer Bier and Boer Cola, which launched during lockdown in 2020.

And the star likely decided to quit eating Nando’s following their tiff with CliffCentral founder Gareth Cliff, who was recently admonished over his comments in an interview on The Burning Platform.

Steve added on Facebook: “My long term plan to never drink Castle-lite or Coke or eat Nando’s again, goes well. If I can live without Multichoice, I can also live without it. Never fall in love with varied options. You have choices.”
