Media personality Somizi Mhlongo has revealed that Bathu CEO Theo Baloyi offered him R1 million for promoting his sneaker brand – but he said NO!

Mhlongo was was speaking on his reality show Living The Dream with Somizi and confirmed that Baloyi was so grateful that his sneaker brand had taken off in South Africa and on the African continent.

‘It doesn’t feel right’ – Somizi Mhlongo

Somizi Mhlongo said: “He (Theo) gave me a pair of shoes and wanted me to wear it and post it. I said ‘no I’m not going to post it’. I hate when people tell me to post.

“So I took the pair of shoes didn’t wear it for like three months. Then wore it, Theo used to probably like sell 1 000 sneakers or 500 sneakers per month, if that. I (posted) since then… sales.

“I go to Theo’s office, Theo says ‘I want to thank you, you’ve made my brand big’ …Theo gives me R1 million cash. I say to Theo, no it doesn’t feel right, I reject… I haven’t worked for this money its yours,” he confirmed.

Somizi said after he posted a photo of the shoes on his various social media platforms, people started calling in asking for “Somizi’s shoe”, enquiring where they could buy a pair.
