Speculation is rife on who the mystery eyewitness is, who allegedly saw singer Kelly Khumalo shoot and kill soccer star boyfriend Senzo Meyiwa

The shocking allegation was made by defence lawyer advocate Dan Teffo in court this week amid the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial

Teffo is representing four of the five men accused of taking a hit out on the Bafana Bafana goalkeeper who died on 26 October 2014 in Vosloorus. However, the bold legal expert claims the men he represents are merely the “scapegoat” of the police and NPA.

On Wednesday 1 June, advocate Teffo revealed that an eyewitness would testify that Kelly Khumalo pulled the trigger that shot and killed Senzo Meyiwa.

He also alleged that the firearm used to kill Senzo belonged to Longwe Twala, the boyfriend of Kelly’s sister Zandie.

Teffo claimed that the people in the house at the time of Senzo’s shooting “hatched a plan to conceal the murder”. They include Kelly, her sister Zandie and boyfriend Longwe, and their mother Ntombi Khumalo. Also present were Senzo’s friends Tumelo Madladla and Mthokozisi Thwala. Kelly’s two children – a son with ex Jub Jub, and her daughter with Senzo – were also in the home.

The news sent shockwaves on social media, with many South Africans backing the allegations that Kelly Khumalo is the person responsible for the death of Senzo.

Celebrities also had their say and shared interesting theories online.

Nota Baloyi tweeted that the eyewitness could possibly be Kelly and Jub Jub’s son.

He posted: “What if Jub Jub’s son is the eyewitness? Black women are capable of the worst evil too, they’ve been watching black men sacrifice their lives for freedom only to stab us in our backs. Instead of condemning abusers, they demonised “black men” even though we are the ones dying out!”

Penny Lebyana had a feeling Senzo’s friend could be the mystery witness. “Mthoko is the witness”, she tweeted.

The radio presenter also claimed it was “possible” that the witness could be Kelly’s own sister Zandie Khumalo.

Ntsiki Mazwai also reacted to a tweet that suggested that Longwe was the eyewitness who would “pin it on Kelly”.

Meanwhile, South African Twitter users are calling for the unidentified eyewitness to receive extra protection amid their testimony during the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial.

This after Kelly Khumalo’s lawyer Magdalene Moonsamy was accused by the defence of “intimidating the witness” in an interview with Newzroom Afrika.

Last month, Brigadier Philani Ndlovu, who was one of the first police officers at the Senzo Meyiwa crime scene, died after a short illness. In 2020, Sunday World reported that witness Thabang Makeleni reportedly died of poisoning.

Here’s what tweeps have to say about the well-being of the mystery eyewitness.

@KabeloMohlah02: “I hope the witness who is going to expose Kelly Khumalo makes it to the court because wow”

@KingNelson_Hart: “May the mentioned witness live to see another day in court and complete their statement”

@Kenttactics: “I hope the eye witness will not be killed before being called by the court…I also hope kelly Khumalo is well prepared”

@steph_gareth: “The witness has to be protected at all costs. It is very clear that the police have been working tirelessly (with Kelly Khumalo) to conceal this crime”
