A Durban comedian has come under fire after his joke about the death of rapper AKA – real name Kiernan Forbes – rubbed audiences up the wrong way.

The star was shot and killed outside a Florida road hotspot in Durban earlier this month in what police believe was an “assassination”.

COMEDIAN’S JOKE GOES TOO FAR?

According to IOL, a Durban comedian incurred the wrath of an angry audience after making an inappropriate joke about the death of AKA.

The quip reportedly saw the unknown comedian “apologise” for the “negative publicity” the rapper’s death caused the city. He also reportedly joked about how AKA was killed.

The up-and-coming star was a guest of the Savanna Newcomer Showcase in Cape Town on Friday, 17 February – the same day as the rapper’s public memorial service.

According to the publication, actor Maurice Page was one of the audience members who stormed out following the distasteful joke.

But not before screaming: “That’s my brother you making these jokes of. The man died last week, and it’s his memorial today. Don’t you have respect?”

The comedian was later booed off the stage.

Maurice later told the publication: “It’s personal for me. I knew Kiernan personally, and because he is a coloured Capetonian, I felt this was going too far. I don’t think his joke was appropriate.

“You don’t make such a joke about anyone. The way he died was vicious, and you can’t make a joke about the way he was taken out.

“I know it’s a comedy show, but comedians need to know when to make a perfect joke at a perfect time. Man, that’s just too sensitive.”

AKA’S OWN COMEDY CENTRAL ROAST REVISITED

In a clip that has been revisited in the last week since AKA’s death, the hitmaker himself is seen addressing the audience and panel of the Comedy Central Roast.

He says jokingly: “Imagine a South Africa without AKA? What a terrible place”.

Taking a swipe at his rap rival Cassper Nyovest, AKA added: “All you have is some wierd guy dancing with a bottle, forcing people to come to his shows.”

“The truth is, you all f**king love me”.

Growing sentimental, the hitmaker thanked his legion of fans, friends, and family.

“Thank you for putting up with my sh*t,” he added.
