Entertainment commentator Phil Mphela revealed that rapper Emtee was scheduled to perform at the 15th annual South African Film and Television Awards (Saftas), but “disappeared” with his costume when the time came. The Saftas were televised on Mzansi Magic and SABC3 on 22 May.

Emtee was set to appear alongside musician Ami Faku. The pair were scheduled to Ami Faku’s hit Lala Ngoxolo which features Emtee. The artists rehearsed for the show days before the broadcast, but when it came to the actual performance, Emtee was missing in action.

Emtee disappears with Safta costume

Sources have informed #TheEntertainmentAlert that moments before the scheduled performance, Emtee “disappeared” and he left wearing the costume he was supposed to perform in. The costume department was left to deal with the situation as the clothes and the shoes the rapper had been wearing, were borrowed for the event.

“We were also told that Emtee left in costume, meaning the costume department was left worried as the clothes and shoes he was wearing, were borrowed for the event. With Emtee “MIA”, songstress Ami Faku was now left to perform solo,” said Mphela.

Despite all the drama, Ami Faku’s performance was one of the highlights of the evening.
