Many people are still coming to terms with the passing of South African rapper and fashion icon Richado Machado – better name by his stage name Riky Rick.

The rapper took his own life in the early hours of Wednesday morning and left behind his wife Bianca Naidoo and their two children Maik and Jordan.

The news left thousands of his fans reeling while his fellow musicians such as Cassper Nyovest, AKA, and Big Zulu paid tribute with heartbreaking social media posts.

In his video, rapper Big Zulu literally breaks down in tears as he expresses his sadness over Riky’s passing. The two featured in a song called Mali Enginini which saw Big Zulu’s career skyrocket.

And now Nota Baloyi has spoken out about Big Zulu’s reaction to the news and says it was that intense because Riky Rick saved his career with the song feature.

“Riky Rick not only featured on Mali Eningi & delivered a verse that would reintroduce Big Zulu to a market that rejected him for a decade, no matter what he tried.

“He was the man behind the #MaliEningiChallenge that saved Siyabonga Nene’s career… That’s why he cried like that,” wrote Nota in his Twitter post.

“Riky’s verse and adlibs made the joint too as much as Intaba yase Dubai. But what really made the joint is whoever edited Duduzane Zuma’s video onto that joint.”

@champ_it_up said:

“Yep it introduced Big Zulu to a certain market but saving his career is just reaching mate but go on Authority.”

While @Sir_Tsutsu wrote:

“But Riky’s verse was not the reason why the entire country was singing along to that hook.”
