Masilela’s murderers found guilty

Bongani John Masombuka, 34, of Tembisa, along with Sfundo Harrison Nkosi, 30, Khumbuzo Solomon Mukhuba, 27, Brian Makhubedu, 24, and Mashudu Malema, 31 — all of whom are from Ivory Park — have been found guilty of killing soccer player and Rhythm City actor Dumisani Masilela.

The five men appeared in the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria last week to hear the court’s findings and again appeared in court on Monday 2 August for sentencing proceedings.

No remorse: 2 convicted maintain their innocence

News24 reports that two of the five men — Khumbuzo Solomon Mukhuba, the one who is said to have pulled the trigger, and Sfundo Harrison Nkosi — have said that they were not involved in the horrific crime.

“I did not kill their son,” said Mukhuba while speaking to the judge who reminded him that the four other accused had all pointed him out as the one who pulled the trigger.

He went on to further say that he does not know why he was pointed out as the killer since he was not there and does not even know any of the other suspects.

Meanwhile, Nkosi also claimed that he was innocent telling the court that he knows nothing about what happened that night. He seemed to be contradicting himself because he then went on to apologise to Masilela’s family before asking for their forgiveness.

“To the friends and family of Dumisani I am asking for forgiveness,” he said.

Rembering Dumisani Masilela

The 29-year-old Dumisani Masilela was killed on 2 August 2017 after five hijackers attempted to take his car while in Tembisa. Masilela managed to drive himself to the hospital after one of the five men shot him in his stomach. Unfortunately, he later succumbed to his injuries.

Masilela got married to former Muvhango actress Simphiwe “Simz” Ngema in June; a month before his death. At his funeral, she sang him a son while speaking about how much he loved her.

Masilela, who played the role of Sifiso in Rhythm City for five years, was also a talented soccer player before a car accident abruptly ended his career on the field. SowetanLive reports that after the accident, he joined many hopefuls and auditioned on Idols SA season 8.

While he didn’t make it very far on the show, it did open up a career on the local TV series, Rhythm City, for which he also recorded a song called Ungasabi.
