RASTA’S PORTRAITS

Rasta has revealed that he’s bagged himself a role in DiepCity, several TV adverts besides the Chicken Licken advert. He also discusses Twitter trolls and his many famous portraits.

The artist has been trolled for his portraits of the dead and living from his paintings of Desmond Tutu, rapper HHP, to former president FW de Klerk.

He recently trended for his painting of legendary actor Patrick Shai and got applauded for the painting.

The star tells City Press that he started sketching when in primary school when he was seven years old

He says he’s done over 400 portraits so far:

“I have done almost everyone, dead or alive; legends across Africa and the world at large.”

“I’m sending my work overseas as well, and I can safely say I’ve done over 400 portraits so far.”

CHICKEN LICKEN AND BALLANTINE TV ADVERTS

Rasta’s agency – Romance Films recently secured him two major advert campaigns – Chicken Licken and Ballantine’s whisky.

Mzansi went wild when he recently starred in a Chicken Licken which mocks his paintings just like in real life.

The painter tells the publication that he‘s also bagged a Ballantine’s whisky advert alongside DJ Shimza (Ashley Raphala).

Both adverts mock or make fun of his work, which is something that goes hand in hand with his creative exploits.

He adds that social media trolls are a stepping-stone for him.

“I’m humbled to keep my cool and soldier on every time I’m being attacked.”

“If you aren’t moving, people won’t say anything about you. I’m a soldier in art – no one can win the battle.”
