‘Heartbreaking’: Woman with same syndrome as Justin Bieber speaks out
A woman who is living with the lasting effects of Ramsay Hunt syndrome, has spoken out after Justin Bieber revealed his own diagnosis.

A UK woman who suffers from Ramsay Hunt syndrome – the same medical condition experienced by Justin Bieber – has shared her reaction following his social media reveal.
Over the weekend, a video posted by the pop singer on Instagram went viral. In it, he revealed that half of his face had been paralysed due to the viral infection.
Justin Bieber also announced that he had paused his world tour amid doctors’ orders to rest and recover.
WOMAN SHARES HER RAMSAY HUNT EXPERIENCE
Nicoya Rescorla, who is the same age as Justin Bieber – 28 – spoke to Reuters about contracting Ramsay Hunt Syndrome in 2020
The English mom-of-three revealed that she was diagnosed with the condition amid personal struggles, like a sick child and ageing grandfather.
“I think personally for me stress was a huge factor, a huge factor,” she told the news agency.
Of Justin Bieber’s revelation, she shared: “I’ve watched his video and I’m not going to lie, I shed a couple of tears.
“I never thought that I would relate to someone so much that I didn’t know. It’s hard to think of someone else going through something that you’re going through.
“Obviously, Justin Bieber… he’s a huge celebrity, and I also felt so proud that he was spreading awareness of Ramsay Hunt syndrome. It was heartwarming that he was spreading awareness, but also heartbreaking that he was going through it.”
Rescorla revealed that she was still living with the effects of Ramsay Hunt Syndrome.
She continued: “I went from being so independent, fiercely independent, to having my husband care for me because I haven’t been able to do it for myself”. The woman added that she now struggles with vertigo and needs assistance whenever she leaves her home.

According to US doctor Anthony Youn, Ramsay Hunt is the re-emergence of the dormant varicella-zoster virus (VZV), which manifests as shingles. Ramsay Hunt syndrome can be treated by either steroids or anti-viral medication and has a relatively high full recovery rate if treated within three days.
