Queen Elizabeth II was not only the most admired woman in the world, but she was known to have a wickedly funny sense of humour. As the public mourns the death of Britain’s longest-serving monarch, here are some of the Queen’s funniest moments caught on camera:

Queen Elizabeth and James Bond’s iconic entrance

In 2012, the Queen made a surprisingly funny cameo with James Bond (aka Daniel Craig) for the London Olympics. She reportedly always rose to the occasion when it came to celebrating key events in the UK and rarely shied away from requests for organisers of ceremonies that requested her participation.

For this event, she was expected to attend, but little did people know that she’d filmed a special scene with Craig himself.

Platinum Jubilee highlights with Paddington bear

In 2022, the Queen celebrated her Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years on the British throne.

Crowds went wild when the Queen and Paddington Bear made a special appearance before the likes of Elton John and Mabel took the stage for a night of music and celebration.

“Happy Jubilee, ma’am, and thank you. For everything,” Paddington says in the infamous clip. “That’s very kind,” Queen Elizabeth replies before the band Queen and Adam Lambert sing We Will Rock You.

Cutting-edge of charity

In 2021, Queen Elizabeth made people laugh when she insisted on using a large ceremonial sword to cut a cake ahead of meeting with G7 leaders in England.

The Queen smiled and joked with Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall as she swapped a knife for the longer blade – before saying “I don’t think its going to work”.

When someone reminded her that there is a knife, she said: “I know there is…This is something that is more unusual.”

The clip later went viral, with many saying that they enjoy seeing the late monarch making people laugh.

‘I don’t matter!’ – Funny response from the Queen

On the eve of her Platinum Jubilee in 2022, the Queen found herself quipping about cake once more.

As she had to cut a cake, the Queen quipped that ”I don’t matter!” when she was told that it was facing away from her so that the press could see the emblem the right way up.

”Oh, they can see it!” The Queen said with a smile, before adding ”I don’t matter!”

She added ”I think I can probably read it upside down” before taking a knife to cut the first slice. There was time for one more joke, as Her Majesty said ”I think I might just put a knife in it….see if it works…..somebody else can do the rest of it!’

Joking around with G7 leaders

In 2021, the Queen once again joked around with G7 leaders while getting photos taken, asking “are you suppose to look like you’re enjoying yourself?”

Invictus Games ‘fighting talk’

In 2016, Prince Harry asked the Queen to appear in a skit between himself and Barack and Michelle Obama. She dusted down her acting skills once more, saying “boom, really” to Barack’s “challenge”.

‘Oldie of the Year’ award

The Queen declined a magazine’s award of Oldie of the Year in 20221, saying “you are only as old as you feel”.

In a reply published in the magazine’s issue at the time, her assistant private secretary, Tom Laing-Baker, said: “Her Majesty believes you are as old as you feel, as such The Queen does not believe she meets the relevant criteria to be able to accept, and hopes you will find a more worthy recipient.”

Fist bumping the Queen?

As Donald Trump met the Queen on his state visit to the UK during his presidency, the first pictures seemed to show the president delivering an unusual handshake to the monarch. Reports at the time suggested that the president “fist-bumped” the Queen, but others simply said that it is due to the camera angle.
