Harry and Meghan interview: Prince William and Kate in ‘total shock’

Britain’s Prince William and his wife, Kate Middleton, are reportedly in “total shock” after hearing Harry and Meghan’s revelations in their tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey that aired on Sunday 7 March. 

PRINCE WILLIAM AND KATE IN ‘TOTAL SHOCK’

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle dropped bombshells on what life has been like before, during and after they withdrew from royal life in a tell-all interview with iconic talk-show host Oprah Winfrey. 

The revelations made in the interview left Prince William and Kate in “total shock”, a source has claimed. According to the source they knew of some of the struggles Harry and Meghan had been facing, but not to the extent that emerged in the interview.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were said to be most shocked about Meghan opening up about suicidal thoughts she had, and comments allegedly made about the skin colour of Meghan and Harry’s young son Archie. 

WILLIAM AND KATE KNEW ABOUT SOME OF THE ISSUES

“William and Kate were in total shock after hearing what Meghan and Harry said,” the source told US Weekly.

“What shocked them the most was Meghan’s suicidal thoughts and their quotes on a royal family member mentioning Archie’s skin colour. William and Kate knew about some of their troubles with palace aides, but nothing to this extent.”

KATE MADE MEGHAN CRY

The media previously reported that Meghan had made Kate cry ahead of Meghan and Harry’s wedding. However, Meghan cleared this up in her interview with Oprah, saying it had been the other way around.

“She made me cry and it really hurt my feelings… I thought in the context of everything else going on in the days before the wedding, didn’t it make sense to do what everyone else was doing knowing what was going on with my dad and whatnot,” Meghan said.

Megan added that Kate did apologise and she had forgiven her. 

‘TAKING DOWN’ THE ROYAL FAMILY 

Although Prince William and Kate “feel horrible”, the US Weekly source revealed they still wished Harry and Meghan “had not tried to take down the royal family” on television. 

“William and Kate feel that these conversations could have been made in private.”

PRINCE WILLIAM ‘DEVASTATED’ BY THE INTERVIEW

These remarks tally with what royal expert Katie Nicholl previously said about William and Kate’s reaction to the interview. Prince William was said to be “devastated” and Kate “deeply saddened”.

“William is devastated by this interview. Don’t forget that the Duchess of Cambridge is being dragged into this whole saga and William will hate that and of course, the relationship between father and son is of course at an all-time low,” Nicholl told Entertainment Weekly.

“I think that the idea that Kate’s being dragged into this will be upsetting for Kate who behind the scenes has tried really hard to be a peacemaker between William and Harry. She has been deeply saddened by the brothers’ falling out. Don’t forget she was incredibly close to Harry herself,” she added.
