Gayle King, Oprah Winfrey’s very good friend, had to explain to millions of viewers why Oprah was absent during a TV show on which she was set to appear. Oprah had to cancel her appearance as she was in the hospital at the time. Medical personnel rushed her to hospital due to a serious stomach issue.

Oprah Winfrey’s TV appearance cancelled at last minute

Oprah Winfrey, 70, was due to appear on a TV show on 11 June. The show would’ve given fans a chance to chat about her book club. However, Gayle King, who also works as a news presenter on the show and is a very good friend of Oprah, announced that Oprah would not be able to appear on the show. King explained that Oprah had to pull out of the show at the last minute due to a medical issue.

King said that Oprah had some type of of stomach issue, was vomiting, and experienced dehydration. She had to get an IV. King described her condition as ‘a very serious thing’, according to Daily Star.

Is the medication she’s taking the cause?

Oprah Winfrey recently revealed that she is taking medication similar to Ozempic. Although the drug is not primarily supposed to be used for weight loss, a number of celebrities use it for this purpose as it is one of the side effects of the medication. Several celebrities admitted that taking the drug caused them to have drastic health scares. Oprah recommended the drug long before she was taking it herself and said in an interview,

“The fact that there’s a medically approved prescription for managing weight and staying healthier, in my lifetime, feels like relief, like redemption, like a gift.”

The Mirror reported that Oprah Winfrey unveiled her staggering weight loss late last year and confessed to taking weight loss medication to help her. While she did not specify which medication she was taking, she confirmed it was a medication that doctors usually prescribe to type 2 diabetes patients. The medication helps to regulate insulin levels in the body (like Ozempic).

Many Hollywood stars are turning to diabetes drugs such as Ozempic, Mounjaro, and Wegovy to help them with weight loss. Common side effects of Ozempic include nausea, diarrhoea, stomach (abdominal) pain, vomiting, and constipation.

During an interview with People in December 2023, Oprah said that the drug helps her to maintain a healthy weight. She has spoken at length about her weight struggles throughout her career.

Oprah Winfrey is on the mend now. Her friend Gayle stated that she hopes her bestie doesn’t mind her sharing some details about her health and whereabouts with the public.
