While many South Africans grapple with load shedding courtesy of Eskom, others, like The Kiffness, are choosing its alternative: solar energy.

And luckily for those for can afford it, this means a permanent end to rolling blackouts.

THE KIFFNESS TO DITCH ESKOM AND LOADSHEDDING

Like many citizens fed up with load shedding, The Kiffness – real name David Scott – has decided to permanently end its relationship with Eskom.

But the power alternative comes at a pretty penny. In tweets shared last year, The Kiffness revealed that he had spent nearly R150 000 for a hybrid solar installation on his Cape Town home. At the time, the muso revealed that his electricity would still be supplied off Eskom’s grid as a backup.

But with the recent state of Stage 6 load shedding, the outspoken star has had to rethink his decision. He’s also prepared to foot the costs of an off-grid system that requires a backup utilising a generator to fill batteries, which relies on increasing fuel prices.

He tweeted in a follow-up on Monday, 16 January: “I’m paying 100% basic charge (R725/month) for a grid that’s only working 50% the time. Plus, the 18,6% power price hike is a joke.

“Time to relieve myself of Eskom & go fully off-grid”.

He added: It’s the best thing you can do, second to not voting ANC. Just hope the penny drops for the rest of the country by 2024”.

Sharing his disdain of Eskom, he added: “Used to be one of the most successful SOE’s in the world. The ANC have managed to destroy it in 29 years”.

He added: “Civil society makes a plan when the uncivilised government leaves them no choice.”

MORE CELEBS CHOOSE SOLAR ENERGY

Meanwhile, more celebs have revealed their decision to install solar energy systems in their homes.

In his recent Instagram posts, Cassper Nyovest has been showing Eskom and Stage 6 load shedding the middle finger. And it’s all thanks to his newly installed solar panels in both his Johannesburg home and Cape Town rental.

Actress Pearl Thusi revealed in a recent Twitter rant that she had also switched to solar.
