Reality TV star and businesswoman woman Nonku Williams has had negativity from all corners since her first appearance on the hit reality TV show Real Housewives of Durban (RHOD) in 2021.

Although strong and resilient on the show, she’s had moments when she was affected by the negative comments on social media.

During season one, there was major rivalry between her fans and those of Ayanda Ncwane – widow to late gospel singer Sfiso Ncwane, who share a daughter with Miss Williams.

Fans called her a “homewrecker” and also labelled the Williams family “insensitive” when they asked Ayanda to pay damages on her husband’s behalf for Nothile (Sfiso and Nonku’s daughter).

Ayanda did not return for a second season, claiming that the show’s producers wanted to portray her as someone she is not.

While Nonku chose to return for another instalment of the show in 2022, the hate has not entirely stopped. This year, with new additions Jojo Robinson, Londie London and Thobile ‘Makhumalo’ Mseleku, there’s even more drama.

Although more and more viewers have seemingly warmed up to Nonku, cast members have been calling her out for her “excessive drinking”.

At some point during the season, musician Londie London, and Jojo had an intervention to address their concerns about their friend and fellow cast member. However, things spiralled out of control when they indirectly called her a “drunkard.”

While some ladies on the show have changed their tune and apologised for branding Nonku a drunkard, others have not. In the tenth episode of the show, Jojo and Sorisha apologise to Nonku for their claims, but everyone is shocked when Londie puts her foot down and refused to do the same.

In light of this, some viewers have weighed in and agree with claims that Nonku’s drinking habits have gone overboard.

In an interview with Drum Magazine, Nonku recalls a period in her life when she was so affected by the comments on social media that she spent days in bed, unable to get up.

“I remember at some point I spent the whole weekend in bed, I didn’t want to go anywhere, I just stayed in bed because the comments on social media really devastated me at some point,” she explains.

However, the single mom says she picked herself up and decided to be herself and block out the drama.

“But being the resilient Nonku, I told myself to get up because these comments are coming from people who don’t know me in real life. That resilience made me develop a thick skin. At the end of the day, I can’t control what people say about me, and it’s not like I can change because I don’t know how to be anyone else,” Nonku was quoted as saying.
