South African celebrities Bonang Matheba and Sol Phenduka have joined hundreds of South Africans in dragging former minister Fikile Mbalula for his tweets about the national shut down which is currently taking place around South Africa. Taking to Twitter earlier today, Mbalula mocked the lack of momentum around the shut down which he has referred to as a big “flop”.

His tweet has upset many people including Bonang and Sol who believe that the strike has had a positive impact so far.

Former arts and culture minister Nathi Mthethwa was secretly criticised by Bonang who slammed his ideas and failures to do his job.

And now former transport minister Fikile Mbalula is catching smoke after he mocked the Economic Freedom Fighers’ national shutdown which has failed to attract as much traction as anticipated.

“Shut down biggest flop,” Mbalula tweeted from his account earlier today.

The tweet was widely criticised by social media users who argued that the shutdown — a flop or not — resulted in two days of uninterrupted power supply followed by months of load shedding.

Responding to his tweet, one Tweep, @missthulz wrote:

“The shutdown was a big success actually.  It managed to expose that you guys have all the resources to fight crime and keep citizens safe, you just choose not to and continue with your corruption. You have no shame, Fikile!”

This prompted a response from Bonang who said:

“So true. Le motlakase o teng (the electricity is on)”.

Also responding to Fikile Mbalula’s tweet, radio personality Sol Phenduka wrote:

“Even if it is, the reasons for the shutdown are valid. It being a so-called “flop “ doesn’t vindicate the ANC leadership. Y’all are letting the country down. Seriously
