‘Bold and talented’: Nandi Madida announced as first SAMA28 host

Television presenter and singer Nandi Madida has been announced as the first host of the 28th annual SAMAs set to take place on 28 August.

The 28th annual South African Music Awards (SAMAs) are around the corner and as we get closer to the event, the excitement is building! Television presenter and singer Nandi Madida has been announced as the host for the awards ceremony on Saturday 28 August in Sun City, North West. Madida and her husband, talented producer Zakes Bantwini, will be turning heads at the SAMAs as the Osama hitmaker is nominated for seven awards.

NANDI MADIDA ANNOUNCED AS SAMA HOST 

Nandi Madida is no stranger to the SAMA stage. In 2020, Madida accepted her first SAMA for her collaboration with local hip-hop star KO, Say U Will. In a statement,  Madida said she wouldn’t have imagined that she would be hosting the awards two years later. 

“I am humbled to have been trusted with this honour and look forward to bringing unforgettable moments to the #SAMA28 stage alongside my co-hosts.”

Recording Industry South Africa (RiSA) CEO Nhlanhla Sibisi, praised Madida as a charismatic host. 

“She is an example of the bold, compelling and immensely talented women we wish to acknowledge, uplift and empower,” added Sibisi. 

NANDI MADIDA SHARES HER EXCITEMENT

Taking to Twitter on Tuesday 10 August, Madida said she is excited to host the SAMAs to celebrate the best Mzansi has to offer. 

“I cannot wait to laugh, dance, sing and have a good time with you all! As we celebrate THE BEST MUSIC currently in the world (Yes I said it)! South African Music.”

The 34-year-old posted a video of herself dancing to a hot amapiano track.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW 

30 awards will be handed out at the SAMAs on 28 August in Sun City and this year, competition is fierce. Nandi Madida’s husband, musician Zakes Bantwini, leads the pack of nominees with seven nominations. 

Bantwini scored two nominations in the Bst Collaboration category for his chart-topping hit, Osama and his collaboration with Karyendasoul and Nana Atta, iMali. The talented producer’s 2021 album, Ghetto King, is nominated for Album of the Year, Best Engineered Album and Best Dance Album.
