Uthando Nes’thembu star Musa Mseleku is standing by his thoughts on polyandry. The famous polygamist said in May this year that polyandry – a wife taking more husbands -is an attack against marriage. His thoughts were met with outrage by locals who think Musa has double standards.

It has been months now and Musa Mseleku is still fighting against polyandry in South Africa. Musa, who has four wives, says that wives should not be allowed to take more than one husband.
His opinion on polyandry became quite clear when the department of home affairs gazetted a new green paper for the Marriage Act. One of the proposals was for polyandry to gain recognition here in SA.
After hearing the news, Musa quickly shared that allowing polyandry would ruin marriages.
“I have said I view this [the proposal to legalise polyandry] as a direct attack on the institution of marriage as a whole. I stand by that.”
According to Musa who stands firmly by these sentiments, polyandry will never work for couples. according to him, polyandry ignores spiritual implications.

‘Building families’
He also added that women think polygamy is to satisfy “physical needs” while it is actually about building families.
“Women are using this card of equality wrongly in this regard because polygamy is not something to satisfy your physical needs. It’s not about that. It is about building families.”
He then went on to say that a wife with four husbands may have issues when it comes to the children’s surnames.
“Imagine one woman having — like in my case — four husbands. Each husband will want his own children who will bear the surname of that particular husband to grow his family.
No matter how we try to say the children will take the wife’s surname, that can’t happen because spiritually and culturally that is impossible. The seed carrier of that child is the husband. I can’t lose my birthright as a seed carrier,” he said in a TshisaLive article.
Needless to say, Musa’s views were met with scathing comments from mostly South African women who slammed him for having “double standards”.
