‘Morda is arrogant’: Black Motion’s problems ‘started in 2021’

An insider claims Morda would brag to his former Black Motion group member, Thabo Smol, that he was a bigger deal than him and the group.

Black Motion has set tongues wagging since revealing on Wednesday 11 January that former member Bongani “Morda” Mohosana (previously known as Murdah Bongz) has been ordered by the court to replace the studio equipment owned by the music group.

An insider close to the group has labelled the Mohigan Sun hitmaker as “pompous” and “arrogant,” revealing to Drum Magazine that the DJ started absconding from his Black Motion duties in late 2021.

MORDA ALLEGEDLY CLAIMED HE WAS BIGGER THAN THE GROUP

According to the source, Morda started rubbing it in his former group member Thabo “Smol” Mabogwane’s face that he is a bigger deal than him on social media. He allegedly would brag about the number of likes he’d get.

“The guys at Spirit Motion sat down with him to get a sense of why he is doing what he is doing. That is when he started to tell them that he has more likes on social media and that he is big with or without Black Motion,” revealed the source.

Last year, the group’s record label Spirit Motion released a statement denouncing claims the duo had split.

“When the statement that they are still together came out, they were trying to level with him, but they realised that he wasn’t willing to compromise.

“If you know, the Black Motion brand is built on humility and he was too big for them. So they let him be but told him that Black Motion will continue because there were already projects lined up for them,” said the insider.

Thabo Smol is now joined by Kabelo “Problem Child” Koma as the newest member of Black Motion.

THE STUDIO EQUIPMENT MAYHEM

The publication further reports that the court papers state that Morda absconded around November 2021 and has been recording and performing as a solo artist.

In February 2022, he allegedly appropriated some of the studio equipment. However, because it was not core equipment, it was replaced through an interim arrangement.

A source who spoke to Sunday World in december 2022 revealed that Morda was accused — by his former record label boss, Moses Nkia Mokgoko — of breaking into the group’s Centurion house on 15 December. The house also has a studio in it.

The source alleged that Morda stole studio monitors, a television set, computer hard drives and mixing desk from the house which the Black Motion use as an office and studio.

In the same month, Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Colonel Noxolo Kweza confirmed to The South African that a case of theft and housebreaking was opened against Morda.

Explaining the court order shared by Black Motion on social media on Wednesday, the insider told Drum that it was filed as an urgent matter at the high court in Johannesburg because Morda was allegedly making a mockery of the case on social media.
