Former Miss South Africa Dr Tamaryn Green took to social media on 29 June to announce that her fiancé, entrepreneur Zesimdumise “Ze” Nxumalo, has officially paid lobola to her family.

Lobola is the traditional “bridal wealth” paid by the man to the family of his wife-to-be in the form of livestock or other means. Following their engagement, Ze Nxumalo took a step closer to marrying Tamaryn Green by paying the traditional bridal wealth to her family.

Green and her fiancée dressed traditionally for the lobola negotiations. She wore a patterned traditional green skirt with a white shirt and a matching green headwrap.

Nxumalo wore a traditional shirt with a narrow pattern across on the collar and down the middle that matched Green’s skirt, with a blazer and traditional Zulu headband.

Here are a few pictures from the lobola negotiations.

“The first step of an incredible journey. Lobola negotiations ❤️,” wrote Tamaryn Green on Instagram.

Green shared a series of pictures of the engagement on her Instagram.

Nxumalo, who prefers to keep a low social media profile, also shared a picture of the engagement, capturing his smiley fiancée with her ring.

“The knee buckled, but couldn’t be happier ❤️,” he wrote on Instagram.
