MIHLALI NDAMASE LAUNCHES MALAKYT

Mihlali launched her new business venture on Friday 15 October. Malakyt allows make-up artists, barbers, hair stylists and nail technicians to connect with potential clients. On the website, you’ll find the ratings, prices and locations of these service providers.

THE R25K PRICE TAG

While several beauticians have already signed up on Malakyt, one tweep posted a screenshot of Mihlali’s rates where it showed that the influencer was charging R25 000 for a make-up look.

Since she started her YouTube channel in 2016 she has achieved over 20 million views and raked in over 350 000 YouTube subscribers. The influencer made Forbes Africa’s “30 under 30” list and bagged the Feather award for “Socialite of the Year” in 2019.

Maybe the R25 000 price tag isn’t too far-fetched…

“What does she mean R25k?” wrote the tweep.

‘THE RATE IS NOT FAR FETCHED’

Most tweeps were left outraged after seeing the R25 000 rate. One tweep wrote: “Probably less than 5% of women in this country earn 25K a month So who is Mihlali’s target market?”

Director Ofentse Mwase shut down Mihlali’s rate saying he works in commercials and the rate is far too expensive.

Others came to Mihlali’s defence saying she is one of highest-paid Instagram influencers in the world amongst other things. “She’s worked with Revlon, Inecto and Johnson’s just to name a few. The rate is not far fetched.”

“Mihlali is to other makeup artists what Konka is to other nightclubs. Not everyone can afford her, it’s called exclusivity,” wrote one tweep.

Mihali did clear up the rumours saying she doesn’t do make-up looks anymore.
