Forget football, Messi & Ronaldo battle it out over Instagram

Whilst Ronaldo may be the most followed person on Instagram, his rival Messi has the most liked post on the social media platform.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are undoubtedly the biggest football rivals of our generation – if not ever. But their stiff competition transcends their professional career – currently, both soccer stars are gunning over Instagram popularity following Argentina and Messi’s recent World Cup win.

While both players are considered “GOATs” (greatest of all time), Messi’s recent World Cup win gives him an edge over his competitor.

To add insult to injury, his IG post of clutching the tournament’s trophy has become the most-liked Instagram post.

LIONEL MESSI VS CRISTIANO RONALDO – INSTAGRAM EDITION

Cristiano Ronaldo is the most followed person on Instagram, with over 520 million followers, equating to roughly 6.5 % of the world’s 8 billion population.

Hot on his heels, Messi is the second most followed IG user with 406 million followers.

But World Cup winner Messi scops the top spot for the most-liked Instagram post. The Argentine captain’s “world champion” post has close to 70 million likes.

Both Messi and Ronaldo feature prominently in the Top 10 most-liked IG posts – the duo’s Louis Vuitton is the third most-liked post, following the infamous “Egg” IG account.

Individually, Cristiano Ronaldo and his fiancee Georgina Rodriguez’s announcement of a twin pregnancy last year and his post about his World Cup elimination earlier this month also make the cut.
