Prince William has denied that the royal family are racist following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey.

In the interview, Meghan said that one member of the royal family had told Harry they had “concerns” about how dark son Archie’s skin would be when he was born. Buckingham Palace later released a statement on behalf of Queen Elizabeth, saying the issues raised were “concerning” and would be addressed privately.

Buckingham Palace releases official statement

“The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan,” the statement read. “The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.”

The statement ended: “Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members.”

Prince William to speak to his brother soon

Now, the Duke of Cambridge told reporters on Thursday that “we’re very much not a racist family” and that he hadn’t spoken with his brother since the interview but “will do.” It was William and Kate Middleton’s first official engagement since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s interview was broadcast around the world.

According to Insider, Prince William made the comments in response to a question asked by Sky News North of England correspondent Inzamam Rashid during a visit to a London school to promote a mental-health initiative for children.

Other sources added that William and Kate were in total shock after hearing what Meghan and Harry had said in the interview.

“What shocked them the most was Meghan’s suicidal thoughts and their quotes on a royal family member mentioning Archie’s skin colour. William and Kate knew about some of their troubles with palace aides, but nothing to this extent.”

Thomas Markle fires back

This comes after Meghan’s father, Thomas Markle, also defended the royal family, saying he didn’t think they were racist. He also recounted his last conversation with Meghan and Harry, which he said took place in a hospital after his heart attack in 2018.

He told Good Morning Britain hosts: “I had to tell them I couldn’t come to the wedding….Harry said to me at that point: ‘If you had listened to me, this wouldn’t have happened to you’. Me lying in a hospital bed after having a procedure and getting a stent put here and here [points to chest] thought that that was kind of snotty and hung up.

“I’ve apologised over what happened at least a hundred times… I feel like she let me down as well… I was in the hospital bed the last time we talked, and I never heard from her again.”
