‘STOP CHEMO NOW’ COMMENT GETS MIXED VIEWS

While Mark Pilgrim has been inundated with well-wishes, prayers, and encouraging words to continue his cancer fight, one Instagram follower shared a different view.

The user – who uses the handle @lize.dobbins – commented under his recent post: “Stop all meds and chemo now. Just let your body heal itself now”.

But whether well-intentioned or not, the woman’s comment was met with harsh criticism.

Robrocks_memoryrocksforrobbie: “Unless you have walked this walk, please don’t give advice on what treatment plan someone should be doing. When you are in a fight for your life, trust me, you do EVERYTHING that your medical professionals and team suggest, as well as whatever alternative treatments are available, and that makes sense. Just encourage and send Mark Pilgrim love. Advice on stopping chemo isn’t helpful.”

Colleeninthegarden: “My husband kept on fighting to the end. Never give up hope, Mark.”

Stuff_from_miss_ruff: My aunt with stage 4 cancer stopped her chemo and meds, and trust me, her body didn’t heal itself. I’m sure Mark is following the advice of his qualified medical professionals on this”.

On the flipside, a few agreed with the woman, claiming that chemo was “breaking his body down.”

Last month, another follower likened Mark Pilgrim’s cancer treatment to “abuse.” However, their comment quickly took on a more malicious tone when the follower claimed that Mark Pilgrim’s cancer battle was “karma.”

The Facebook user – who goes by the name Megan Molko – posted: “I don’t see the point. You ain’t gonna beat it. I’m not one of these people who keep on telling you you can beat it. Tell them to give you morphine and gently leave this mortal plane”.

She added: “We will remember your smile for sure. What you are going through is abuse. It may be paying off karma; who knows?”

WHAT MEDS IS MARK PILGRIM TAKING?

Almost a year ago, Mark Pilgrim was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer – the second time after beating testicular cancer more than three decades ago.

In the past 12 months, the radio personality has since gone undergone an intensive treatment plan combining radiation, immunotherapy, and chemotherapy. He also regularly has his lungs drained and is set to begin a new drug as part of targeted therapy.

There have been setbacks, though. Mark has had to have large vast amounts of liquid drained from both his lungs and stomach. After losing more than 15kgs after a two-month hospital stay, the presenter now has to use a walking stick to move around.

His latest round of chemo and immunotherapy has also left him lethargic and with a nasty bout of diarrhea.
