Confident: Yes. Conceited: Possibly. That’s the verdict viewers derived from Piers Morgan’s interview with Cristiano Ronaldo, who sought to explain his sex appeal to fans around the world

The Manchester United player sat down with the UK personality for a two-part interview – the first part of which aired on Wednesday evening. Part two will air on Thursday night.

It’s no secret that Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the most famous and acclaimed football players in the world.

It’s also common knowledge that he’s a good-looking man – and he knows it too!

Pulling his leg, Piers Morgan joked in part one of the interview: “The problem with you is that you’re too popular…you have half a million Instagram followers. That’s all the Kardashian followers put together”.

To which Ronaldo responded: “That’s good. I’m proud of that. It means that people like me”.

When asked what he thinks fans like about him, Ronaldo claimed: “It’s not just because I play good football, but the rest is relevant. You have to be charismatic, people have to feel some kind of connection with you”.

He jokingly added: “To be good-looking helps too”.

When asked to describe himself, Ronaldo responded: “I’m a fruit people want to bite… let’s say a strawberry!”

He added: “An appetising strawberry!”

In a clip Piers Morgan posted on social media – which viewers get to see in part two on Thursday evening, Cristiano Ronaldo compared himself to former Manchester United colleague Wayne Rooney, whom he claimed was “jealous” of him.

Piers shared how Rooney had repeatedly criticised Ronaldo, and at one point even claimed he should be ditched from the popular team.

Ronaldo responded: “I don’t know why he criticises me so badly… probably because he finished his career and I’m still playing at a high level. I’m not going to say that I’m looking better than him. Which is true.”

But instead of taking another swipe at the 37-year-old Portuguese player, Rooney has reportedly complimented him in the wake of the clip going viral.

He told the Times of India that he hopes Ronaldo has a fulfilling World Cup experience in the upcoming tournament. He said: “I’m sure he’s used to dealing with expectations. The idea of leaving a legacy is surely going through his mind. I would love to see either Messi or Ronaldo win the World Cup. It would be a fitting end to their incredible careers.”
