The KZN floods have wreaked havoc on roads, homes and have even claimed the lives of 20 people in the province. 

On Tuesday 12 April, South Africans woke up to the devastating news after several days of heavy rainfall. According to News24, at least 10 people are also feared missing after the floods.

According to authorities, teams from eThekwini Emergency Services are already on the ground assessing the impact.

TWEEPS SHARE DAMAGE OF KZN FLOODS

On Sunday night, the South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued a severe weather warning of heavy downpours expected across the country.

On social media, SAWS issued a “Orange level 8 warning” that KZN floods would continue into Tuesday.

Taking to Twitter, South Africans shared distressing images and clips of the KZN floods.

SIZWE DHLOMO HELPS FAN IN NEED

Although he was kilometres away, radio and tv personality Sizwe Dhlomo was able to assist a Twitter user who revealed they were stranded due to the KZN floods.

The distressed tweep posted a video of their home flooded by muddy water. 

“Can anyone send some help. I am stuck inside my place, I looked through the window t [and] the water is flowing like a river so I can’t open the door . Am in chesterville Road 16 #Durban #kznfloods”, posted the tweep

The Kaya FM presenter responded to the tweep with advice to stay calm and assure them that help was on the way.

He tweeted: “Try & relax for now Madlala. I can imagine you are scared. Don’t open the door because then the water will flood in. If you still have electricity, charge all of your devices so you can call for help & people can get hold of you. Only open for cops or EMS”.

Sizwe continued to liaise with the tweep and eventually authorities were alerted to the tweep’s condition, who was later rescued.
