Khaby Lame chases fame of most-followed TikToker Charli D’Amelio

What started as just comedic skits has led Khaby Lame to be the second-most followed TikToker in the world on track to take the top spot.

As of 14 June, video sharing app TikTok had over 1 billion users and continues to grow rapidly. The app took the world by storm with users across the globe sharing videos about all sorts of topics.

TikTok’s most-followed creator, Charli D’Amelio, might be kicked off the top spot soon as another creator Khaby Lame is creeping up on her crown…

CHARLI D’AMELIO

Charli D’Amelio is a 17-year-old dancer from Norwalk, Connecticut in the US who just like any other teenager started creating on TikTok. She gained a massive following and has been the number one followed TikToker since March 2020, hitting 100 million views in November 2020. 

D’Amelio knocked Loren Gray off the top spot. Gray had been creating on TikTok since 2016 while the app was still Musical.Ly. 

She went viral in July 2019 and Dazed named her the most famous teenager on TikTok. She has appeared in a Super Bowl ad with Grammy winner Megan Thee Stallion, and has sat courtside at an NBA All-Star game with Jennifer Lopez. 

KHABY LAME

Khabane Lame known popularly as Khaby Lame is a Senegalese-Italian creator based in Italy. He was inspired to create TikTok’s after being let go from his job in a northern Italian factory due to COVID-19. 

He was inspired to create comedy skits and says his idols are Hollywood actors Will Smith and Eddie Murphy.

LAME CHASES D’AMELIO’S CROWN

The 21-year-old Lame posted his first video around the same time Charlie D’Amelio became the most popular TikToker. 

Lame has accumulated over 90 million followers and 1.3 billion likes, surpassing Addison Rae to become the second most followed TikToker behind D’Amelio. 

Most of Lame’s videos have over 20 million views each with some of his videos reaching

Dazed reported that given Lame’s trajectory, he is on track to overtake D’Amelio as the most followed creator on Tik Tok.
