Kenny Kunene has officially begun his duties as the new MMC for transport in the City of Johannesburg. But his first few days were marked with uncertainty after the former convict and Sushi King-turned Patriotic Alliance party member revealed that he did not know where he would be having his toilet or lunch break.

Kunene appeared in an interview with the news channel eNCA, where he made the startling statement. He also used the opportunity to respond to critics of his new position.

Speaking to eNCA, Kenny Kunene reacted to the backlash of his appointment.

He said: “The majority of South Africans have been motivated by my journey of coming out of prison and turning my life around. Now we’re in politics, and this is where we are.

“It happened with the president of the Patriotic Alliance, Gayton McKenzie, who is the mayor of the Central Karoo. It is nothing new for me to be a member of the mayoral committee. I am going to follow in his footsteps.

“The constitution does not deprive me of an opportunity to serve the people of the country. The law of this country is on my side”.
